Educational Field Trip for Children Held in the Cijevna Canyon Natural Monument
Parks Dinarides – Network of Protected Areas of Dinarides, in cooperation with the Cijevna Canyon Natural Monument management authority and Malesia Adventure, organized an educational field trip for children from the “Đerđ Kastrioti Skenderbeg” Primary School in Zatrijebač. The aim was to introduce young members of the local community to the natural and cultural values of Cijevna Canyon.
During the field trip, the children had the opportunity to spend time in nature, take a guided walk, and talk with experts to learn more about what a protected area is and why Cijevna Canyon has been designated as one.
A special part of the programme focused on the canyon’s flora and fauna. Through discussions with experts, the children learned about characteristic species found in the area, their habitats, and the importance of conserving the natural ecosystems of the Cijevna River.
A walk along a section of the former caravan route also provided an opportunity to explore the area’s cultural heritage. The children learned about the historical significance of the route and the way of life of the communities that have been connected to the Cijevna River for centuries.
By organizing this educational field trip, we aim to help children growing up near the protected area better understand and appreciate the natural and cultural values of their surroundings, while encouraging them to develop a responsible attitude towards nature from an early age. Educational brochures in Montenegrin and Albanian were distributed to the children.
The activity was implemented as part of the project “Contributing to More Effective Management of the Cijevna Canyon Natural Monument – Phase II”, financially supported by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
