Announcement: Thematic Conference “Nature Parks – From Establishment to Effective Management”

Parks Dinarides – Network of Protected Areas of Dinarides will organize the thematic conference “Nature Parks – From Establishment to Effective Management”, which will take place on 17 November 2026, starting at 10:00 AM, at the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro in Podgorica (MVP Hall).

Over the past decade, Montenegro has made significant progress in establishing nature parks, creating important foundations for nature conservation and sustainable local development. However, the designation of protected areas is only the first step. Establishing effective management systems, ensuring sustainable financing, strengthening institutional capacities, and fostering cross-sectoral cooperation remain key challenges.

The conference aims to bring together representatives of relevant institutions, local governments, protected area management authorities, and civil society organizations to review achievements to date, identify key challenges, and explore opportunities for improving the management of nature parks in Montenegro.

Particular attention will be given to policies and plans within Montenegro’s nature conservation framework, the challenges and opportunities associated with Natura 2000, and future perspectives for the development of nature parks. The conference will also showcase examples of good practice, highlighting opportunities for cooperation between civil society organizations and protected area management authorities.

The conference is organized with the support of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
