First Camera Traps Installed in the Cijevna Canyon Nature Monument
Parkovi Dinarida, in cooperation with Wildlife Montenegro, Malesia Adventures, and the management authority of the Spomenik prirode Kanjon Cijevne (Cijevna Canyon Nature Monument), have installed the first camera traps in this protected area as part of efforts to improve biodiversity monitoring.
Two camera traps have been installed so far:
- one in rocky grasslands,
- the other within a forest ecosystem.
In the coming period, a third camera trap will be installed to monitor the Eurasian otter, an important indicator species of river ecosystems.
The installation of camera traps marks the beginning of systematic monitoring of wildlife presence and movement in the area, contributing to a better understanding of biodiversity status and more effective management of the protected area. The collected data will be used for the development of the Management Plan.
These activities were carried out within the project “Contribution to More Efficient Management of the Cijevna Canyon Nature Monument – Phase II”, financially supported by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
