A New Step Towards Nature Protection: LLC ‘Kanjon Cijevne Nature Monument’ Established

At the session held on April 3, 2025, the Municipal Assembly of Tuzi adopted a Decision on the establishment of a limited liability company “Kanjon Cijevne Nature Monument” Tuzi.

This decision establishes a new company that will serve as the manager of the protected area – the “Kanjon Cijevne” Nature Monument. The company is founded as a public service with the purpose of managing this valuable natural site, in accordance with the Decision on the proclamation of the protected area and the Nature Protection Act.

We remind that during the period 2023–2024, Parks Dinarides implemented a project which laid the groundwork for improving sustainable management of this area. The project resulted in the following outcomes:

1. In cooperation with the Tuzi Tourist Organization and consultant Kirsi Hyeverinen, we prepared the Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy of the Municipality of Tuzi.
2. A five-day study visit was organized for representatives of the Municipality of Tuzi to the Soča region in Slovenia. [The report is available at the following link.]
3. Two events on the topic of Cijevna River management were organized – a roundtable and a conference – with key conclusions and recommendations provided.
4. An informational video and brochure were prepared and distributed in both Montenegrin and Albanian languages.
5. A Pressure Inventory of the Cijevna River was created, serving as a baseline assessment of the current state on the ground, including clearly defined competencies and necessary measures for the future manager to adopt or initiate.

We welcome the adoption of this decision as an important step towards the institutionalization of protection and sustainable development of the “Kanjon Cijevne” Nature Monument. We believe the newly established company will serve as a strong mechanism for the preservation of natural values and for fostering sustainable local development.
