Parks Dinarides has started the implementation of the new project “Select waste for a healthy and sustainable environment”

The process of illegal and improper disposal of waste is recognized as one of the biggest problems in the environment. Also, waste management is a complex process due to the constant danger to the environment and protected areas, through air, water and soil pollution, as well as human health. In order to contribute  to the solution of this problem, Parks Dinarides started the implementation of the project “Select waste for a healthy and sustainable environment“.

The project is implemented in cooperation with the Municipality of Gusinje and Kolašin with a focus on protected areas that gravitate to these municipalities – national parks: Prokletije and Biogradska gora.

The main goal of the project is to support the implementation of activities from the State Waste Management Plan and the Local Plans of the mentioned municipalities. These plans envisage the establishment of a primary waste selection system based on the principle of two bins – dry and wet components. In this context, the project activities will be focused on setting up infrastructure for selective disposal in above-mentiond protected areas  as well as in the area of ​​the municipalities of Gusinje and Kolašin and setting up educational information boards on this topic in targeted protected areas. These bins will be visibly marked with posted stickers/posters with information on the type of waste that is disposed of in them.

Also, the Waste Management Plans envisage strengthening public awareness and informing the public about proper disposal and selection of waste and recycling processes. Therefore, the specific goal of the project is focused on the education of the population of the mentioned municipalities and the education of individual target groups such as children and students of school age.

Through education, waste management will be brought closer to the population as well as strengthening public awareness of the necessity of such action in order to protect the environment and all the benefits it brings.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism through the Public Tender for financing the program to strengthen environmental awareness of the need to introduce a system of separate municipal waste collection and will last 7 months.
