Announcement conference: Integrated Management of the Cijevna River, Challenges, and Perspectives
Parks Dinarides – Network of Protected Areas of the Dinarides is organizing a conference titled: Integrated Management of the Cijevna River, Challenges, and Perspectives. The conference will be held on October 3, 2024, in the Assembly Hall of the Municipality of Tuzi, Montenegro.
The conference aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and current plans to preserve the natural and cultural values of the Cijevna River, as well as to enhance cross-border cooperation. Additionally, during the conference, we will present the results of the project “Contribution to More Effective Management of the Cijevna Canyon Natural Monument,” which lasted 16 months and was financially supported by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund – CEPF.
Representatives of state institutions, managers of protected areas from Montenegro and Albania, and representatives of the NGO sector will attend the conference.
The Cijevna River flows through two countries, Albania and Montenegro, and represents a significant natural resource for both nations. The part of the river’s course in Montenegro is protected as a natural monument and entrusted to the management of the Municipality of Tuzi. Its source area and the Vuklit Valley in Albania are included in the National Park “Albanian Alps,” while a portion of the river’s flow in the Republic of Albania is utilized for energy purposes. This fact highlights the need for an integrated approach to managing the river and its resources, considering ecosystem preservation and promoting sustainable development.
The conference is organized within the project: Towards the establishment effective management in Cijevna River Canyon PA which is financed by Critical Ecosystem partnership Fund and Birdlife International.
