CONFERENCE: Through regional cooperation towards sustainable protected areas

With great pleasure, we invite you to the VI Conference of the Parks Dinarides – Network of Protected Areas of Dinarides (PAs) and the Regional Conference of Civil Society Organizations, which will be held from 31. May -02. june 2022 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Hercegovina.

We are in the years when substantive actions have to be agreed and taken to effectively conserve biodiversity. Dramatic biodiversity loss is one of the biggest challenges of our global community and to curb it we need coordinated efforts on all levels.

Western Balkan countries are well recognized for their extraordinary biodiversity richness together with large and still preserved natural ecosystems.  However, this biodiversity is under a myriad of threats  and in need of effective and inclusive conservation.

The EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, with the Green Deal at its core, and the Global Biodiversity Strategy are setting the framework for the future of nature conservation, which the Western Balkan countries committed to through the Sofia Declaration and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

To make all these strategies and plans work we need continuous dialogue and a high degree of cooperation between all actors. As a contribution to this process, WWF Adria and Parks Dinarides are organizing the conference to gather civil society organizations, protected area managers, representatives of relevant institutions and other professionals working in the field of nature conservation in our region.

The main objective of the Conference is to explore how to strengthen regional cooperation, improve coordination for biodiversity conservation in the Western Balkans, and recognize how different actors can contribute to and enhance nature conservation through the implementation of  the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans..

During the conference, a session of the VII General Assembly will be organized. As before, the members of the Network will have the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the activities carried out in the previous year. In addition, 15th meeting of Management Board will be held on 30.05.2022. (the official invitation and materials will be submitted later).
