Parks Dinarides organized educational workshops “Let’s learn to manage waste”

The increase and illegal waste disposal is one of the most important environmental problems. Due to the increasing damage to the environment, it is very important to learn how to properly dispose waste. Therefore, it is very important to strengthen environmental awareness on this topic, in order to contribute to environmental protection.

In this context, as one of the activities of the project “Select waste for a healthy and sustainable environment” implemented by Parks Dinarides, educational workshops were conducted with school-aged children on the topic of waste.

This activity was carried out in elementary schools in the area of the municipality of Kolašin in cooperation with the Biogradska gora National Park, and was held by educators from this protected area. The aim of the workshops was to educate, introduce, inform and strengthen the awareness of school-age children about the topic of waste. At the workshops, the children were introduced to the ways of proper waste management and handling, the problems of inadequate waste disposal and its impact on the environment and humans.

In total, two workshops were held, which included five elementary schools. The first workshop was held at the “Mojsije Stevanović” Elementary School in Manastir Morača, which was joined by students from two other elementary schools from regional units, Elementary School “Vojin Čepić” from Međuriječe and Elementary School “Vučić Veličković” from Dragojevića Polje. The second workshop was held in the city center in Kolašin at the “Risto Manojlović” elementary school, which was attended by children from the “Radoslav Jagoš Vešović” elementary school from Bar Kraljskihe. Both workshops included children aged from sixth to ninth grade, and they were conducted through an interactive presentation on the topic of waste, at the end of which a knowledge quiz was conducted for children.

Children were also given educational material on this topic at the workshops, created as part of the project of the same name.

The workshops showed that children and young people have an awareness of the issue of waste and its negative impact on the environment and people, they have acquired new knowledge that is particularly related to the importance of primary waste selection and recycling, and that they are ready to make their contribution to environmental protection.
