The “Three Rivers Guardians” project represents a continuation of the ongoing efforts by Parks Dinarides to enhance the legal framework and capacities for effective management of protected areas in Montenegro. The project focuses on establishing new protected areas and safeguarding the rivers Čehotina, Bistrica, and Mrtvica, which are invaluable natural resources.

The project is implemented in partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Eco Team. Parks Dinarides is responsible for carrying out activities at the national level, while Eco Team is in charge of implementing specific field activities in pilot areas.

Key project activities:

1. Enhancing the legal framework – Developing and refining by-laws stemming from the Nature Protection Act, aiming for better alignment with international standards.
2. Intersectoral collaboration – Organizing meetings and roundtables bringing together managers of protected areas, local and national authorities, and civil society organizations to foster dialogue and support initiatives for improving protected area management.
3. Education and training – Conducting specialized workshops for managers and rangers of protected areas to enhance their capacities for more effective management.
4. Developing a guide for good governance – Preparing a practical guide containing guidelines and best practices for efficient and responsible management of protected areas.
5. Raising awareness – Organizing campaigns and activities aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of protected areas and their role in nature conservation and sustainable development.
6. Support for pilot activities – Providing expert and advisory support to Eco Team in implementing specific activities in pilot areas, including monitoring and evaluation.
