Sights

The exact origin of the name of the mountain Trebevic is not known, but it is assumed that the area of the mountain was once an altar dedicated to one of the Slavic gods, probably Perun, and thus remained the word “Trebevište” (from verb “trijebiti” – eliminate ). However, there are indications that the ritual of sacrifice occurred back in Illyrian times when they sacrificed animals in numerous sinkholes near the top of the mountain. The slopes of this mountain once were inhabited by the Illyrians, who founded the settlement nowadays known as Debelo Brdo.

Tourism

Since ancient times Trebević has represented the main excursion site of the inhabitants of Sarajevo. The favourable geographical position, altitude, mild climate and natural beauty are instilled in the hearts of nature lovers, since the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which recognized the potential of the area and turned it into the excursion site. The trend of development of Trebević continued until World War II when it suddenly stopped. After the war the renovation of existing and construction of new tourist facilities began. For an easy access, a cableway from the centre of Sarajevo to the space Vidikovac is built. New pedestrian paths and mountain lodges and resorts are constructed.

Connection

Trebević is located only 10 kilometers from the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, and connected by the local asphalt road.
