Location

Regional Park “Germia” is situated northeast of the capital of Kosovo, Priština. It covers an area of 2300 hectares. In the south, the park is bordered by Lake Badovc. The highest point Germie, “Butos” peak is at 1,050 meters above sea level, while the lowest point is at 663 meters.

History

Because of special natural beauty, the original values, which have cultural-educational, scientific, tourist and recreational importance, in 1987 the Municipal Assembly of Priština took under the protection the complex of “Germia”, in the category of a regional nature park. The Regional Natural Park is currently managed by the Public Enterprise “Hortikultura”. In February 2016, the Municipal Assembly of Priština declared Germia a protected landscape. WWF Adria and Ecopan in this area implement the project Germia as part of the project “Protected areas for nature and people.” This project will help Germia become an urban park, full of activities for visitors, and a great place for scientists and students to learn about the environment.

Nature

Thanks to its geographical position, climate, the mountain range Germia is quite rich in terms of flora, vegetation and fauna. From previous studies there were about 600 species of vascular plants, with about 83 species of fungi and 10 species of moss and lichen recorded. According to the survey there are 23 endangered plants, of which 5 are endemic. There were also registered 5 species of amphibians, 7 species of reptiles, 19 species of mammals and 30 species of birds.

Sights

Germia is rich in natural garden of Kosovo with trees older than 150 years. Vegetation of forests of Germia consists of 4 different types of trees: Quercetum frainetto-cerris scardicum Karst, Querco-Carpinetum moesiacum, Quercetum montanum moesiacum and Fagetumm moesiacum montanum.

Tourism

Germia is known as the lungs of Priština, where not only the citizens of the capital can find moments of relaxation, but also the numerous tourists from all over the region. Germia has over million of visitors annually. With well-known basketball courts, running tracks and summer pool Germia is an ideal tourist destination for all ages.

Connection

Germia is urban park, only 7 km away from the capital of Kosovo. The vallez of the Park is positioned in such a way that it is easily accessible for recreation and relaxation. Along the valley there is 3 km asphalt road, which, along the asphalt roads around the massif Germia, makes this area very accessible for visitors.
