Location

Public company “Jasen” is located in the central part of the Balkans, in the heart of Macedonia (in the valley of the river Treska – between Tetovo, Gostivar, Makedonski Brod, Veles and Skopje). Jasen territory of 31,127 hectares includes mountain Jakupica with Karadžica, Suva planina and Suva gora. The highest point is on Karadžica, altitude of 2472 m, while the lowest point is in the Canyon Matke with the altitude of 370 meters.

History

The preservation of “Jasen” begun in the period from 1958 to 1960, as the nature reserve. Today, it falls into the category of special natural multi-purpose areas. Founded in 2005, in order to protect certain biocenological, floristic, fauna, geological and hydrological natural rarities. This multi-purpose area is strictly concerned about how to prevent changes to the basic features of the authenticity of multipurpose areas and evolutionary development as a whole.

Nature

“Jasen” is home to over 80 species of birds from 23 families, which is considered useful for a sustainable ecosystem. In addition to birds, the area is inhabited by representatives of 47 species of mammals, i.e. one third of the representatives of European mammals, such as does, mouflons, wild boars, deer, mountain goats, bears, foxes, wolves …
In this area there are three reservoirs, lakes Kozjak 32 km, Sveta Petka 16 km and Matka 7 km. Accumulation Kozjak has many deep bays which are natural habitat and spawning of native fish: Macedonian trout, carp, Vardar chub, Vardar scurvy, white barbel, eel, catfish, popadika, common rudd.

Sights

“Jasen” is rich in protected natural heritage, such as Kožle, Ručica, Katlanovsko blato, Katlanovski predio, Ostrovo, Arboretum, Matka Canyon.
Within the Emerald network for the conservation of natural habitats in this area are the following sites: Matka Canyon, Katlanovo-Taor and Jakupica.
In addition to the Emerald network, certain areas within this area are on IPA (Important Plant Areas) list. Out of the 42 areas in Macedonia, in this region there are four: Treska gorge, Jakupica, Katlanovo Badar and Teorskata gorge.
In addition to natural, this area has an exceptional cultural significance. This is confirmed by numerous archaeological sites from the Neolithic, Roman, ancient and medieval periods.

Tourism

Public company “Jasen” pays special attention to the rural tourism development, and offer of the sports tourism development:
• Hunting and fishing
• Speleology,
• Swimming-marathon,
• Biking,
• Mountaineering,
• Hiking in nature.
In the tourist industry the hunting tourism stands out. According to the package of services that this attractive destination offers is among the first three in the world. Special emphasis is placed on the development of biodiversity as a tourist offer, in collaboration with experts in the field.

Connection

Jasen is connected in terms of traffic with two main roads, with Skoplje, the capital of Macedonia from which it is only 15 km away, and wider with other main roads in the country: highway Belgrade-Skoplje-Solun and regional road Skoplje-Tetovo-Gostivar-Struga-Ohrid. The first connection is local road Skoplje-Glumovo-Matka-Preslap-Ivanje-Kozjak, and the second local road Skoplje-N.Breznica-Kula-villageZdunje, Makedonski Brod-Prilep-Bitolja-Greek border. Besides this communication, the access is possible also via the newly built road N. Breznica-Kozjak-village Zdunje-Makedonski Brod. Within the reserve there is more than 80 km of asphalt forest roads.
