Parks Dinarides to strengthen capacities for protection of Cijevna Canyon

Podgorica, (MINA) – Parks Dinarides has launched the second phase of the project aimed at strengthening institutional capacities and improving field supervision in the Cijevna Canyon Nature Park.

The project, implemented with the financial support from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), builds on the activities carried out in 2022 and 2023, and is being implemented at the key phase in the institutional development of the protected area, following the official establishment of its management structure.

The Parks Dinarides project coordinator Milica Kandic said that the goal is to provide expert and operational support to the management of the Cijevna Canyon Nature Park, primarily through the development of a five-year management plan, which is the basic document for the implementation of protection measures in the field.

“In Montenegro, it has happened in practice that nature parks were declared without management plans for years. With this project, we want to avoid such a scenario and ensure that the Cijevna Canyon Nature Park receives the key planning document already in the first year”, Kandic said.

She pointed out that the primary role of every protected area is the protection of nature, and only then the development of tourism and other activities, which is why the project will also focus on strengthening field capacities.

The second component of the project is focused on improving knowledge about biodiversity and strengthening cross-border cooperation, while the third component, as explained by Kandic, refers to promotion and education.
