Launch of the Project “Guardians of Green: Protecting Petrolamium crnojevicii and Medjureč Forests”
The project “Guardians of Green: Protection of Petrolamium crnojevicii and Medjureč Forests” has officially started, aiming to improve the protection of one of the rarest endemic plant species in Montenegro and to preserve the valuable beech forests of the Međureč Canyon.
The project is implemented by EnvPro in partnership with Parks Dinarides and focuses on long-term biodiversity conservation through the development of two participatory Action Plans, the Action Plan for the Protection of Petrolamium crnojevicii and the Action Plan for the Conservation and Restoration of the Beech Forests of the Međureč Canyon.
Through strong involvement of local communities, institutions, and civil society organizations, the project aims to strengthen shared management of natural resources and improve biodiversity status, in line with the principles of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
During the project, field research, workshops with the local community, and joint field visits will be conducted, along with the preparation of two participatory Action Plans for plant species protection and beech forest conservation. Special emphasis will be placed on the development of micro-reserve models, the OECM approach, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
The role of Parks Dinarides is to ensure the project’s institutional relevance and political visibility by linking local project results with national decision-making processes, including the preparation of policy recommendations and the organization of a national roundtable.
This project lays an important foundation for innovative nature conservation models and stronger integration of local initiatives into national and European biodiversity conservation policies.
The project is implemented by EnvPro, in partnership with Parks Dinarides, with the support of the Belgrade Open School, within the Green Agenda Multiplier programme, funded by the European Union.
