Online webinar “Ecosystem services: practical applications for protected areas in the Dinaric Arc region” held

Parks Dinarides – network of protected areas of Dinarides held an online webinar on “Ecosystem Services: Practical Applications for Protected Areas in the Dinaric Arc Region” on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

The webinar was organized within the project “Testing guidelines for assessment and valorization of ecosystem services and their integration into the development plans of management institutions of Orjen protected area” which was implemented by Parks Dinarides and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmBh.

The aim of the webinar is to present the concept of ecosystem services, their practical application and the importance of their integration into the decision-making processes of protected areas. The first lecture was organized by Mr. Dženan Bećirović from the University of Sarajevo entitled “The concept of ecosystem services and their connection with the quality of life; Assessment and evaluation of ecosystem services; Integration and use of ecosystem services in the decision-making process ”, through which the participants got acquainted with the concept of ecosystem services and the importance of defining them for protected areas. This was followed by a lecture by Mr. Nikola Stojnić from the Provincial Institute for Nature Protection of Vojvodina, who presented the Regional Guidelines for the assessment and evaluation of ecosystem services and their integration in the planning and decision-making processes of management institutions. Also, within this lecture, the Case Studies of Mount Orjen and Bosut Forests were presented, so that participants could see the practical application of the Regional Guidelines in two pilot areas.

The webinar was attended by 70 participants, members of the Dinarides Parks network, interested institutions and organizations.
