Announcement of the POLLINATE Study visit to a Solar farm in the Netherlands: How to reconcile solar energy and biodiversity?
As part of the POLLINATE project, a workshop and study visit to the Energietuin Assen-Zuid solar farm in the Netherlands will be organized on 10–11 June 2026.

The activity is dedicated to the exchange of experiences and the promotion of solar park development that integrates pollinator and biodiversity protection measures throughout the entire life cycle of solar installations, from planning and construction to management and site restoration after the end of operation.

The first day will include a field visit to the solar farm, focusing on practical solutions for biodiversity management, pollinator monitoring, and ecological site management. On the second day, project partners will participate in workshops and discussions on how to translate the acquired knowledge into public policies and management strategies for solar parks. Special attention will be given to the application of artificial intelligence in assessing cumulative impacts, the development of pollinator protection measures, biodiversity compensation mechanisms, agrivoltaics, and the restoration of sites after the end of the operational life of solar installations.
The study visit represents an important opportunity for knowledge exchange among project partners and for the development of recommendations aimed at a more sustainable and nature-friendly development of renewable energy sources in Europe.
The activity is organized within the framework of the POLLINATE project – Improving Territorial Policies to Address Pollinator Decline, financed by the European Union through the Interreg Europe Programme.
